The P-51 was originally developed as a fighter aircraft. The aeroplane's wingspan was 11.2 m, and it was powered by a 1695 BHP piston engine, giving it a top speed of 703 km/hr. The Royal Air Force first assigned the supplementary name Mustang to the P-51, as it was significantly faster than the P-40. The main advantages of the Mustang over other aircraft were its great range, high speed and manoeuvrability at great altitudes.
The model:
The sleek P- 51 Mustang in the robbe Nano-Racer series is a genuine racer with a licence to win. Considerable investment has been made in high-quality CNC-machined aluminium moulds to ensure that a light, strong, one-piece airframe can be produced consisting of fuselage and wing. The elegant fuselage offers ample space to house all the essential power system and RC system components. Additional strength comes from the integral CFRP wing spars. For this reason the model can safely withstand any diving and pull-out manoeuvre as well as all aerobatic manoeuvres. The Mustang is an excellent machine for pylon- racing.
