The full-size
The Rare Bear was originally a naval interceptor. Its radial engine generated 2100 BHP, giving it a top speed of 678 km/hr. The civilian version of the machine first flew as an air-racer in 1946 in the National Air Races held in Cleveland.
The model
For our model we exaggerated the pugnacious fuselage in order to emphasise the Rare Bear's distinctive appearance in the air. The Rare Bear is a compact, lightweight model weighing just 350 g. Using modern lightweight foam technology we were able to produce a lightweight, very robust airframe, based on a one-piece wing and fuselage. An integral CFRP wing spar provides additional airframe strength. The model is supplied already painted and with fine decals applied as standard.
