Digital Speed Sensor II for connection to the LinkVario Pro.
For measuring the speed relative to the airflow (true airspeed, TAS), a Pitot speed sensor is necessary.
The Digi-Speed-Sensor II (Item No. 4020) or our Pitot Sensor (Item No. 2560) can be directly connected to the LinkVario Pro.
Specifically with the Digi-Speed-Sensor II, the speed can also be measured without a pitot tube via a tap on the hose connection to the TEK nozzle:
Since the TEK nozzle compensates by adding the negative stagnation pressure to the air pressure, it can also be used for speed measurement. The negative stagnation pressure provided by our TEK nozzle with a coefficient of 1 is subtracted from the static pressure in the differential pressure sensor.
In the case of the Pitot speed sensor, the outer holes on the stagnation pressure tube provide the static pressure. Practice shows that the static pressure at the glider fuselage bottom behind the wing also meets these requirements very well. A 1.5 x 0.2mm brass tube that is flush with the underside of the fuselage provides the static pressure. This must be routed to the static pressure connection on the Digi-Speed-Sensor II. The negative stagnation pressure is taken from the connection hose using a T-piece included with the sensor before the TEK connection of the LinkVario Pro and is fed to the TEK connection on the Digi-Speed-Sensor II.
In many cases, the static pressure in the fuselage already provides sufficiently accurate results. This can be checked with quick, long flights in calm winds compared to the GPS speed measurement in the log. This test is quite simple and should always be performed to verify the arrangement.
