TEK nozzle for our GPS-Logger 2/3 and the MicroVario. Angled version for installation in the vertical stabilizer.

Total energy compensation for the Vario in the GPS-Logger 2/3 and in the MicroVario!
The TEK nozzle is the ideal complement for our GPS-Logger 2/3 and for the MicroVario. These are equipped with a TEK connection on the vario and, together with the TEK nozzle, provide a vario experience similar to that of manned gliders.

Our TEK nozzle operates on the principle of the "Braunschweig nozzle." Manned aviation now almost exclusively uses this design. The construction is indeed more complex than the simple curved Nicks nozzle, but it is unmatched in compensation and delivers perfect results even in model flying.

The nozzle is made entirely of stainless steel and is hard soldered.

The nozzle head is in a 1:2 scale. That sounds bigger than it is, as the nozzles in the original are very small. The nozzle appears to be properly sized for models of practically any size.

The pipe with a diameter of 2.5 mm is approximately 240 mm long and 40 mm high in the angled version for installation in the vertical stabilizer. In the original, this length is about 750 mm, so our nozzle has the correct length for a 1:3 model. For smaller models, the tube can be slightly shortened, while for larger ones, it could be extended and reinforced with a carbon fiber tube.

The straight version for installation on the hull back is approximately 120 mm long.

What is TEK anyway?
TEK simply means the suppression of "stick thermals" by taking the model's speed into account. This is achieved by connecting a TEK nozzle to the variometer sensor.

For slow models that fly at a constant speed, a simple variometer without TEK is often sufficient. Here, the errors caused by controlled altitude changes are not so significant, and you can already detect the thermals well with the variometer. The cleaner you fly and the smaller the speed changes are, the better the vario works without the TEK nozzle.

With dynamic models or even with an imperfect flying style, there are always variometer readings that do not indicate the actual rising and sinking of the model, but only a controlled change in speed or altitude, known as "stick thermals." In fact, when searching for thermals, it only matters whether you are flying in rising, falling, or neutral air masses. As independently as possible from how the aircraft is currently moving.

This behavior is achieved by using a TEK nozzle on the variometer. This nozzle creates a speed-dependent vacuum and thus simulates a climb at increasing speeds, compensating for the loss of altitude. So you push down, the altitude decreases, and the variometer without TEK would indicate a descent. The TEK nozzle compensates for this by indicating climbing for the increasing speed when pressing. The conversion of height (potential energy) into speed (kinetic energy) is therefore no longer incorrectly interpreted as sinking or climbing with the TEK nozzle.

In an ideal scenario, with complete compensation, the variometer always shows the current sink rate of the aircraft in absolutely calm air. This is, of course, not a constant value, but rather depends on speed, lift, and other factors.

The connection between the TEK nozzle and GPS logger 2/3 or MicroVario is made using the separately available nozzle holder, item no. 2785, and the hoses included with it.
