Description:
The original Fieseler Fi 156 Storch is a short take-off and short landing aircraft that was used during the Second World War for courier services, ambulance flights and as a liaison aircraft for the German Luftwaffe. Due to its excellent low-speed flight characteristics with a minimum speed of less than 50 km/h, only 50 metres of runway were required for take-offs in headwinds and 20 metres of runway for landings. The aircraft was nicknamed the "Storch" because of its very high-legged undercarriage, which is reminiscent of a stork.
