With the Wright Flier, brothers Wilbur and Orville Wright achieved the first flight of a motorized, pilot-controlled aircraft on December 17, 1903, in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The flight lasted 12 seconds and pilot Orville Wright covered a distance of 37 meters. The propulsion was provided by two counter-rotating air screws powered by a four-cylinder Otto engine. During the fourth flight of the Wright Flier, a gust of wind caused a crash landing that irreparably damaged the aircraft. Today, the restored airplane is on display at the Smithsonian Arts and Industries Building in Washington, D.C. Assembling this wooden kit creates a faithful model of this aviation pioneer.
