Solar-Clipper is an electric glider from the generation "400 with gearbox". With today's drives, there are hardly any limits to the model's flying capabilities. Completely self-stable in circles, it takes the smallest thermals with it, near the ground a show. If you send it on the track, it flies this without noticeable loss of altitude. The two-piece wing is equipped with a steel plug, the mounting to the fuselage is done with two dowels and plastic screws. Convenient and quick access to the RC system is possible via the easily removable wing and large canopy. Side parts of the fuselage are made of lightweight plywood, the rest of the model is made of balsa.
Due to the large wing area, the model glides excellently even without propulsion and takes the smallest thermals and updrafts to get up to altitude. The large outer wing panels provide a stable attitude so that the model can be flown maneuverably even with the use of rudder only.
In the 1990s, equipping the model with solar cells to buffer the then current NiCd cells was a technically interesting way to extend flight times. However, with today's battery and motor technology, this buffer is no longer necessary.
The kit contains all wooden parts needed for building. In addition, a thermoformed canopy is included with the model. A 1:1 scale building plan and descriptive building instructions are included in the kit. For modern propulsion we recommend our actro-n 35 motors with matching governor and propeller (see below). A 3s LiPo with approx. 2400mAh is used here as the drive battery.
