The Aero L-39 Albatros is a two-seat, single-engine trainer aircraft developed in Czechoslovakia as a successor to the L-29 Delfin and still in use today by the air forces of several nations. The AMEWI model is a small, maneuverable jet in PNP (Plug and Play) and upgraded V2 version. The changes compared to the V1 version mainly concern the engine. Instead of a 5-blade impeller, a completely newly developed 11-blade impeller and a 30A Hobbywing controller were installed. The advantage of this is the increased performance and at the same time a much more pleasant sound of the impeller.
The plane comes largely prefabricated - the assembly is limited only to the mounting of the wing, the linkages and the tail. All servos (3x 8g), the 50mm impeller incl. 4900KV brushless motor and 30A Hobbywing ESC are already installed.
The jet is designed to accept 3S Li-Po batteries between 850 and 1000mAh, giving the L-39 considerable flight performance. The speed ranges from fast to slow, appealing to less experienced pilots. Maneuverability and roll rate are also impressive with a wide range from very maneuverable to tame. The takeoff behavior is completely uncritical, which means that the model can be launched from the hand without any problems. The jet shows no tendencies to the typical sagging of an impeller model. Due to the small size, the model is the perfect trunk flyer for in between and also provides a lot of fun in a squadron with several models.
