SZD Foka 4 3m D-Box

The Foka was developed by Władysław Okarmus as a performance glider for the standard class. The improved SZD-24-4 Foka 4 was created in 1962. At the 1965 World Gliding Championships in Great Britain, Jan Wróblewski, who was only 24 years old, managed to win the World Championship title in the Open Class with a Foka 4. This was the first and so far the only time that this was achieved with a standard class aircraft. Seven world records were flown with the Foka 4. The glider was awarded the OSTIV prize [1]. 137 of the 204 gliders built were exported, including 30 Foka 4s to the GDR[2]. Its successor was the SZD-32 Foka 5.
The Foka is still used today by gliding clubs.

The FOKA 4 is built as a semiscale model in 1:5 scale. The Foka is especially suitable for dynamic slope flying. However, due to the HQW 2.5/10 thermal profile, it is also excellently suited for extended thermal flights on the level. The strength of the model also allows all conceivable aerobatic maneuvers. The high speed range allows for wide-area flying and at the same time the Foka looks very realistic.
